In Historic Action, Utilities Commission Grants Certificates for 166 MW of Utility-Scale Solar Farms
At its staff conference on Tuesday, January 22nd, the Utilities Commission granted certificates of public convenience and necessity (CPCNs) to several dozen utility-scale solar projects totaling 166 megawatts (MW) in nameplate capacity. While there is no guarantee that each and every project will be financed and built, this is a historically large amount of renewable generation to be approved in a single act by the Commission. The NC Sustainable Energy Associaion is pleased that the Commission took this action and is allowing the development of these projects to contribute to North Carolina’s economic recovery.
