NC's Annual Green Building & Solar Tour

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: Sat., September 25 & 26, October 2nd, 9th & 16thThe North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA), in partnership with local organizers and the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), will once again hold the annual Green Building & Solar Tour in communities across our state on either Saturday, October 2nd, Saturday, October 9th, and Saturday, October 16th.

The North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA), in partnership with local organizers and the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), will once again hold the annual Green Building & Solar Tour in communities across our state.  Local tours are planned on several Saturdays beginning on September 25 through October 2nd, 9th, and the 16th. Stay tuned for more details coming soon!

This is your chance to visit and "see up close" various sizes and styles of green homes, businesses, schools, privately-owned renewable energy projects, government facilities and other projects featuring renewable energy and/or green building products and technologies on the tours. Site owners, green builders, contractors, installers and other experts will also be available at tour sites to answer questions and provide more details. 

Cape Fear Solar And Green Building Tour: Saturday, September 25th, 10am - 4pm
The Cape Fear Green Building Alliance will be hosting the Solar and Green Building Tour again this year with plans to visit 5 sites ranging from commercial, institutional, and residential, and highlighting buildings constructed under the NC Healthy Built Homes and USGBC LEED programs. This year's tour will be guided (trolley) or self-guided. Please check www.cfgba.org for more information.

Western NC Green Homes for Sale Tour: Sunday, September 26, from 12-4 pm.
The Western North Carolina Green Building Council announces its Green Homes for Sale Tour. This event is free and open to the public. It will predominately showcase certified green homes currently on the market in WNC. For more information click here. If you have a home you'd like to add to the tour, click here for details.

Durham Green Building and Solar Tour: Saturday, October 2nd, 10am - 4pm
The 7th annual Solar & Green Homes Tour in Durham will feature multiple Green and Solar venues within 15 miles of downtown Durham. More information.

Hammiller House Tour: Saturday, October 2nd, 10am - 5pm
3504 Gilley Drive, JonesvilleNC 28642 (phone: 240-731-5593). Featuring energy and water conservation techniques.

Greenville Area Green Building Tour: Saturday, October 9, 2010, 10:00 am– 3:00 pm
The 5th Annual Tour will kick-off at the Pitt County Community College Student Built Home, corner of Reedy Branch & Warren Road.  For more information click here.

Orange County Solar TourOctober 9th 2010 from 10 am to 4 pm
Join Strata Solar, LLC for a tour of residential and commercial of solar energy systems. The tour will highlight different applications of photovoltaic and solar thermal systems of all sizes. In addition the tour will also highlight other sustainable building features. Information packet will be available to registered guests prior to tour. Picked up packet during the tour at Strata Solar for $5, or printed yourself. Registration and questions can be addressed by sending an email to info@stratasolar.com.

Celebrating Green Central: Friday & Saturday, October 15, 5:00pm - 8:00pm and October 16, 9:00am - 2:00pm
The CCCC Green Building and Sustainable Technologies Program will be hosting the "2010 Celebrating Green Central" event. The kickoff and reception will be at the new Sustainable Technologies Center on October 15th. 
 The trade show, highlighting local businesses that contribute to our local green, sustainable community will take place on both days. All activities will be held in the new LEED Gold Certified Sustainable Technologies Center and Chatham County/CCCC Library. For more information click here.

Sustainable Sandhills Tour: Saturday, October 16, 10:00am - 2:00pm. 
Learn about Ft. Bragg’s greenprint directly from one of the Installation’s Sustainability Planners!
On this driving tour narrated by Ft. Bragg Planners, you will learn more about:
    - Low Impact Design and Storm Water Management Practices.
    - Solar Panels at work.
    - The impacts of Urban Forestry and tree-lined streets in a community.
    - “Wolfing” and how it relates to the Red Cockaded Woodpecker's habitat.
    - Identifying an old growth long leaf pine and other Sandhills-region native plants.
    - A building made from shipping containers...will you be able to identify it?
    - The Alternative Fuel Station.
    - The Army's first certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Golf Course. More information.

 

Boone Green and Solar Home Tour:  Saturday, October 16th, 8:00 am to 1:00pm The Appalachian State University Sustainable Energy Society will be hosting the Boone Green and Solar Home Tour again this year with plans to visit 6 sites ranging from LEED Certified homes, an innovative dual envelope passive solar design, a photovoltaic and solar thermal residential retrofit, a LEED Certified High School and a methane gas generation project at a closed landfill. The tour will begin at the ASU Solar Decathlon facilities located at 1100 East King Street in Boone at 8:00 am and conclude at 1:00 pm.  The caravan tour will visit each site meeting with the owners, green builders and other experts who will be available to answer questions and provide additional details.  The cost is $5 for students and $15 for the general public with breakfast snacks and light refreshments are provided.
