NCSEA's Clean Energy Jobs Lobby Day

Wednesday May 25, 2011 | 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM | NC Legislative Building, 16 W. Jones Street, Downtown Raleigh

If you support clean energy and want NC's legislators to increase our use of renewable energy and energy efficiency, then we need you to join us at the NC General Assembly on Wednesday, May 25. All clean energy business leaders, employees and supporters are strongly encouraged to join NCSEA at the NC General Assembly for our NC Clean Energy Jobs Lobby Day. Click here to register.  We will start the day in Room 1425 in the Legislative Building (16 W. Jones Street) at 7:30am for coffee and a short update on all pending clean energy bills.  Participants will also receive talking points and handouts that you can use during your meetings with legislators. (NCSEA will also have a table set-up all day in the Legislative Bldg. for people arriving later in the day.)

NCSEA's policy staff has been working overtime since January with legislators who have introduced numerous clean energy bills that could create approximately 12,850 jobs in NC by 2015. The bills on NCSEA's 2011 Legislative Agenda have been introduced - and now you and other supporters across our state must encourage your legislators to schedule committee meetings and pass these much-needed bills before June 9th. We need your help

All bills must pass at least one chamber (House or Senate) before June 9th, which is the "crossover" deadline - time is extremely short!  Bills that do not pass before this important date are essentially dead until the start of the 2013 legislative session, unless leadership decides otherwise.

(Online registration ends on Tuesday, May 24th at 2pm.  This event is free to attend, but tax-deductible donations are encouraged, which will help fund NCSEA's policy work.)

We need the help of all NCSEA Individual and Business Members and supporters to join us in Raleigh as we meet with legislators and encourage them to pass the bills on NCSEA's legislative agenda.  We need renewable energy and energy efficiency business owners, employees working in our clean energy industries, economic developers, local government officials and staff, and other supporters to share their stories with legislators and help NCSEA increase support for our clean energy agenda.  (Click here for more information on the 2011 session of the NC General Assembly, including NCSEA's legislative agenda, introduced bills and how to contact your legislators.)

IMPORTANT:  While they are in session in Raleigh, legislators are extremely busy during the day with committee meetings and other appointments, so you must contact your local legislators immediately to schedule a meeting for May 25th.  (Business owners and employees should also contact legislators who live near your company, as well as your completed projects.)  Helpful tips on scheduling these meetings and contact information for legislators are located below.

Schedule for our Lobby Day – Beginning at 7:30 am, we will have coffee and networking followed by a very brief session with all participants at 8am in Room 1425 in the Legislative Building, which is located at 16 W. Jones Street in downtown Raleigh.  (This room is located in the center of the building.  When you enter the Legislative Building, go to the left in the lobby and make your first right, which will take you across a courtyard.  Walk through this courtyard (you'll see the press conference room straight ahead) and make a right and then immediate left down the first hallway.  Room 1425 is halfway down this hallway.)  We will hand out copies of NCSEA’s legislative agenda and other necessary materials, give you an update on each clean energy bill that has been introduced, and then everyone will spread out for their pre-scheduled meetings with legislators.  Click here for directions.

**If you arrive after 9 am, please find NCSEA's staff  at our informational table in the (TBA) courtyard of the Legislative Building, which is located at 16 W. Jones Street.  This table will be staffed all day until 3pm.**
