Agenda Overview:

During the events on October 8-9, participants will hear from many of our state and nation's top energy and economic leaders, including Amory Lovins, NC's Assistant Secretary of Energy John Morrison, and others, who will discuss and examine North Carolina's Green Energy Economy "today and tomorrow." Learn more about our state's developing renewable energy and energy efficiency industry since passage of the Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (REPS) law in 2007. And, how will recent legislative action in Raleigh and Washington, DC impact our state - and what else must happen to ensure NC becomes one of the top sustainable energy markets on the East Coast and a national leader?

Thursday evening's Networking Reception & Fundraiser will feature remarks from Amory Lovins, co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Institute and one of the nation's leading voices on renewable energy and energy efficiency. Newsweek magazine has praised Lovins as "one of the Western world's most influential energy thinkers," Time magazine named him one of 2009's "100 most influential people in the world," and the Wall Street Journal named him one of 39 people worldwide "most likely to change the course of business in the '90s."

Friday's Green Energy Economy Forum will feature many of our state's top energy and economic leaders. The Luncheon Keynote Speaker will be John Morrison, who Governor Bev Perdue recently appointed as the new Assistant Secretary of Energy at the NC Department of Commerce.

Forum participants will be the first to learn the results of NCSEA's "2009 Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Industry Census," which will quantify the number of green energy businesses and jobs in North Carolina. This valuable information will help us all to better understand the employment and industry dynamics of North Carolina's sustainable energy businesses. This concrete information about company sizes, core competencies and employment information will better inform elected officials and key decision makers regarding needed actions in the future.

NCSEA's Annual Membership Meeting will be a part of Friday's forum. NCSEA members, which include individuals, businesses, government and non-profits from communities across North Carolina, and other individuals interested in becoming a member will receive updates from its Board of Directors and elect individuals to serve on the 2010 Board of Directors.
