Primary Purpose of Organization Unit

The Division of Finance and Administration is responsible for all financial and nonacademic administrative operations of the University and provides effective and innovative leadership, fiscal responsibility, convenient, reliable services and comfortable and secure environment for living and working at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The Vice Chancellor for Finance & Administration services as the chief business and financial officer and has responsibility for all activities within Finance & Administration. The Vice Chancellor serves in an advisory capacity to the Chancellor in all matters concerning budget, facilities, personnel issues and relevant responses to the UNC Office of the President. The Vice Chancellor serves ex officio as Treasurer of both The University of North Carolina at Pembroke Foundation, Inc., and UNCP’s Endowment Board, holding a seat on each Executive Committee. The Vice Chancellor is also the Manager of the UNCP University Foundation, LLC and the UNCP Student Housing, LLC.

The mission of the Division of Finance & Administration (comprised of the Bookstore, Business Services, Controller’s Office, Department of Information Technology, Facilities Management & Operations, Financial Planning & Budgets, Sustainability Office and Human Resources) is to provide support services to the university community. These services will assist the University in perpetuating a climate for quality education paramount to a successful institution. The Division recognizes that support services are integral to the performance of all constituency groups consisting of the university community and external agencies. The Sustainability Office and Council are charged with positioning UNCP as a regional and national leader in sustainability by ensuring sustainability principles and practices are integrated into campus-wide operations, academics and research, capital and infrastructure development and other activities that shall reduce global warming emissions and prepare students to be responsible stewards of the world. This supports the UNC Sustainability Policy 600.6.1 (2009), with its long range goal for all campuses to become carbon neutral by the year 2050 as well as the same and expanded sustainability goals of the Appalachian Energy Summit (2012) and the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (2014), now known as the Carbon Commitment.

The primary responsibility of the University Sustainability Coordinator is to aid coordination of the university’s progress toward the goal of being a leader in sustainability. UNCP has formalized its commitment to sustainable practices through the creation of a Sustainability Council. The Sustainability Coordinator will support the Sustainability Council’s strategic vision in the creation of a campus sustainability strategic plan, implementing new projects and programs and effectively communicating sustainable practices with students, faculty and staff. Bringing the campus to carbon neutrality by the year 2050 requires coordinating multiple programs and projects throughout campus operations, academics and research and capital and infrastructure development. The Sustainability Coordinator will have an integral part, with the Facilities Operations Director’s guidance, in accomplishing these long range goals. This position will now require the ability to lead/supervise student interns, market sustainability events/efforts, and act as a consultant with others on and off campus in regards to assigned projects, programs and initiatives and be able to make decisions and make recommendations based on results.

 

Job Description

The primary responsibility of the University Energy and Sustainability Coordinator is to aid coordination of the university’s progress toward the goal of being a leader in energy reduction, sustainability, while assisting the FM Superintendent. UNCP has formalized its commitment to sustainable practices through the creation of a Sustainability Council. The Energy Utility / Sustainability Coordinator will support the Sustainability Council’s strategic vision by assisting the Facilities Superintendent in the creation of a campus sustainability strategic plan, implementing new projects and programs and effectively communicating sustainable practices with students, faculty and staff. Bringing the campus to carbon neutrality by the year 2050 requires coordinating multiple programs and projects throughout campus operations, academics and research and capital and infrastructure development. The Sustainability Coordinator will have an integral part, with the supervisors guidance, in accomplishing these long range goals. This position will now require the ability to lead/supervise student interns, market sustainability events/efforts, and act as a consultant with others on and off campus in regard to assigned projects, programs and initiatives and be able to make decisions and make recommendations based on results. The position will conduct energy audits for various campus facilities for energy efficiency. Inspect buildings with local and federal energy laws in mind to ensure they adhere to all regulations. Also monitor buildings in order to identify areas where energy is wasted or energy efficiency needs improvement, analyzing utility usage in order to develop conservation projects. Develop and Implement Energy-Saving Strategies in order to maximize energy efficiency, create and oversee the implementation of short and long-term projects and strategies that increase energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and minimize unnecessary consumption. Implement energy-related cost-saving measures. Throughout the development process, calculate the budget, project energy savings, and identify the goals for each project. Work with the engineering team to craft and implement said measures. Participate in the design and renovation of buildings to ensure their energy efficiency. Through energy audits and the development of energy saving strategies monitors the utility budget. This will include calculating current energy costs as well as the potential savings of upcoming projects. They prepare budget reports and cost estimates to send to managing staff.

Prepare formal proposals for all new projects, including projected costs and energy savings. Submit formal documentation and status updates for all current projects, regular utility consumption data reports and documentation of results for completed projects. Present this information to executive management in order to make energy-related recommendations.

Qualification and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of experience related to the areas of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
