North Carolina has utility-scale wind development in the eastern part of the state, primarily along the coastline where there is significant generation potential. The wind industry supported between 501 to 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in 2015 and North Carolina has over 27 facilities that manufacture products utilized in the wind industry. The most significant work for the industry will be developing a clear process for wind turbines to coexist with the military.
NCSEA’s Wind Sector Group focuses on the following goals:
- Communicating the benefits of wind energy to counties and landowners;
- Promoting events that encourage wind development;
- Getting companies more involved and familiar with decision-makers and local officials. (For instance, NCSEA partnered with Conservatives for Clean Energy to organize a tour of PPG Industries with Congressman McHenry); and,
- Working collaboratively with other partners and organizations.
